13 September, 2017
Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has delivered the first boiler for the new 4.8GW Kusile coal-fired power plant in South Africa.
The unit is a supercritical-pressure boiler and can generate more efficient power than conventional coal-fired systems, reducing carbon emissions.
Operated by Eskom, the facility will cost an estimated US$9.23bn (£6.95bn) and will be located in Witbank, Mpumalanga Province.
Two other units delivered by MHPS are in operation at Eskom’s 4.8GW Medupi Power Station in Lephalale, Limpopo Province.
