First power produced at DONG’s Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm
19 May, 2017
Danish wind specialists DONG Energy announced that electricity has been generated at its 573MW Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm located off the north Norfolk coast.
After the initial turbines were installed, power is now being produced from the first turbine and is being exported to the National Grid.
Once complete, the wind farm will consist of 91 Siemens 6MW turbines, including the first ever wind turbine blades to come from Siemens’ new blade factory in Hull.
Approximately two thirds of the blades at the project will be manufactured at the factory, which are expected to be installed later this year.
Race Bank will have the capacity to power more than 500,000 UK homes once fully operational.
