06 February, 2019
Oil and gas giants Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil have taken a final investment decision (FID) to develop the US$10bn (£7.7bn) Golden Pass LNG export project, located in Sabine Pass, Texas.
US Energy Secretary Rick Perry joined Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad Sherida al-Kaabi to make the announcement at a press conference in Washington on Tuesday 5 February.
Once operational, the terminal will have the capacity to produce 16m tonnes of LNG a year and will export its first gas by 2024.
The project’s engineering, procurement and construction contract was awarded to a consortium of Chiyoda, McDermott and Zachry, with work due to begin on the project later this year.
