Eni takes the reins at Oooguruk oil field in Alaska
04 January, 2019
Italy’s Eni has entered into agreement to acquire 70% and operatorship of the Oooguruk oil field in Alaska from Caelus Natural Resources Alaska.
The Italian oil and gas company already owned the remaining 30% working interest. The agreement is subject to regulatory approval and certain closing conditions.
The Oooguruk oil field, located in the Beaufort Sea approximately 5km off Alaska’s North Slope coast, has been in production since 2008. It currently produces approximately 10,000 barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil.
Eni is also the operator, with a 100% working interest, of the Nikaitchuq oil field, located 13km north-east of Oooguruk.
Nikaitchuq has been in production since 2011 and produces about 18,000bbl/d of oil.
The complete acquisition of Oooguruk will allow Eni to implement operational synergies across Oooguruk and Nikaitchuq.
Eni plans to drill further production wells at Oooguruk and Nikaitchuq, with a target to increase its total Alaska production beyond 30,000bbl/d.
