EDF increases its Brazilian solar footprint
11 August, 2017
France’s EDF Energies Nouvelles has acquired an 80% stake in the 92MW Pirapora 3 solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Brazil from Canadian Solar.
Canadian Solar retains a 20% interest in the project, located in Minas Gerais state, southern Brazil, and will supply the PV panels from its regional manufacturing facility.
EDF’s local unit will manage the construction and operation of the solar complex, which has a 20-year power purchase agreement in place.
The French company already has an 80% interest in the 191.5MW Pirapora 1 and 115MW Pirapora 2 projects.
The three projects are expected to be commissioned next year, and with almost 400MW of capacity Pirapora will become the largest solar facility in South America.
