Battery storage installed at world’s biggest solar park
13 March, 2019
An energy storage system has been installed at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai.
NGK Insulators supplied the batteries, while electrical engineering firm Ingeteam provided a 1.2MW power conversion system with its medium voltage components, plus the power plant controller.
The battery storage facility marks the first storage system to be twinned with a solar PV plant at a grid-scale level in the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) is trialling the system to determine its effectiveness in stabilising grid fluctuations.
It will also be used for energy time shifting, frequency control and voltage control by using the large capacity of the batteries.
