Balfour Beatty wins £214m Hinkley Point C power lines contract
30 January, 2019
Leading infrastructure group Balfour Beatty has won a contract to deliver the £214m North and South 400kV Overhead Line project for the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant.
As part of the agreement Balfour Beatty will design, supply, install, test and commission 57km of cable works.
The company will use National Grid’s new T-Pylon design for the first time on a live transmission asset, significantly improving efficiency, reliability and safety by reducing the need to work at height.
National Grid announced the contract, alongside deals for J Murphy & Sons to lay 10.7km of underground cables and Siemens who will build a new substation at Sandford.
The three deals were awarded through National Grid’s Overhead Line Design and Build Framework which forms a critical part of Hinkley’s connection scheme, linking the new reactor to the national grid.
