Ørsted files for 2.4GW Hornsea 3 UK offshore wind farm approval
16 May, 2018
Danish wind developer Ørsted has filed a planning application with the UK for its planned 2.4GW Hornsea 3 wind farm, located off the east coast of England.
Up to 300 turbines could make up the project, which will also feature up to six export cables that will connect the wind farm to the National Grid main substation in Norwich.
Covering an area of 696km, Hornsea 3 will be located 120km off the coast of Yorkshire in the North Sea, to the east of the Hornsea 1 and 2 wind farms.
The Planning Inspectorate will decide on the application by 11 June.
Ørsted is currently building the 1.2GW Hornsea 1 and has a contract for difference in place for the 1.4GW Hornsea 2, scheduled to come online between 2022 and 2024.
