Opportunities with Prumo Logística
28 January, 2016
Our programme for 2016 started on 28 January with a full house on the Business Presentation from Prumo Logistics. Offering infrastructure solutions for Brazil through the Açu port (a 90km2 of area), the port is now home to a range of developments, many of which related to the Energy Industry. Companies like Wartsila, Technip, NOV, Intermoor, Edison Chouest will be using a 17km quay with a 24m depth to work on assembling motors, constructing flexible lines, mooring services, maintaining PSV among others. Future projects are under discussions such as the development of a 3.3GW Gas Fired thermo power plant.
A whole new world that has turned to life in the North of Rio State, and Mr. Pedro Oliveira – Business Development Manager - gave an overview of the many developments that range from iron ore terminal to a multicargo terminal. Although many projects are under construction and some areas are still available, it was impressive to see in real pictures what has been accomplished so far after R$11bn have been invested. Companies like BG will be using the T-OIL for oil transhipment and BP is setting up a marine fuel facility.
The morning ended with relevant numbers of investment being shared. In 2015, they spent about US$200mn in 800 contracts, and despite the crisis affecting the market, within 2016 they expect to invest US$250mn related to more than 70 types of services and supplies. Mr João Kapiska, Procurement Manager, pointed out the difficulty in receiving quotes that meet the deadlines requested, especially because of logistics constraints that many suppliers don´t take into consideration when bidding. They are working with SEBRAE (Brazilian institution for Small and Medium Suppliers) trying to develop a local base and started with a pilot project related to PPE. They will soon be launching a portal to showcase supply opportunities but so far the main road is through the email firstname.lastname@example.org.
This project that started in 2011 with a one man’ s dream is now a problem solver for a country with so many logistic bottlenecks. Opportunities in the region thought are not limited to Prumo as suppliers should reach directly all the other companies based or being built to assess the market.
