Opportunities with Parnaíba Gás Natural
10 March, 2016
On Tuesday 10 March the EIC welcomed Parnaíba Gás Natural (PGN), the second largest gas operator in Brazil behind Petrobras, for a business presentation at the EIC Rio office. With only seven years of experience, this independent operator is focused on filling a gap in the regional market by only producing natural gas.
PGN operates in the Bacia do Parnaíba Basin, in Maranhão in the northeast of Brazil, where they currently own three producing gas fields: Gavião Real, Gavião Vermelho and Gavião Branco. However, there are opportunities available with the five other fields that PGN is looking to explore.
Mr. Damian Popolo, the Institutional Relations Manager of PGN, gave a detailed presentation on the company and its assets. He explained that gas from the company’s fields goes into ENEVA’s 1.4GW Parnaíba thermoelectric complex, which is connected to the Brazil’s national grid.
The two main challenges faced by PGN are mainly related to low gas pressure in mature fields where new technologies are needed to help enhance gas recovery. The company are also looking at alternatives to pipelines, which would make the smaller fields economically feasible to produce natural gas. Currently, this is not a reality because of the high costs involved in construction of pipelines.
If any of our members would like to learn more about Parnaíba Gás Natural, more information can be found at the company’s website. Alternatively, please contact us as we can put you in touch with key contacts in the procurement and engineering departments.
The EIC would like to thank Mr. Popolo for the great presentation, Mr. Lucas Ribeiro, a PGN analyst who also attended the event, and Ms. Carla Falcão, from Institutional Relations, who worked alongside the Rio team to help make this presentation happen.
