Q. Is the database available as a download so I can import
data directly into my Marketing/CRM system?
A. No. The EIC does not release the database as a download for
several reasons:
- Our Market Information team at the EIC is continuously adding
new data to the database, so the only way to ensure that you have
the latest information available is to access the database directly
on-line.
- We are constantly working to improve the facilities offered
by the database. This often involves changes to the structure
of the database. Internal change management is relatively easy
for our development team to manage. However, members would find
themselves interfacing to a moving target - each updated copy
could have differences in structure which might break any import
routine that were developed.
- The database is an internal product; we are not equipped to
provide user support other than for the website interface and
we are not equipped to provide the kind of documentation and support
that a third-party developer would need.
- Future development plans for the database would make it unfeasible
to download it in its entirety.
- The EIC already has a longer-term strategy for dealing with
this issue (See question
on long-term plans).
