British Energy Generation Ltd
A Supply Chain Perspective British Energy is the UK's largest producer of electricity, generating around one-sixth of the nation's needs and making a powerful contribution to the country.
With a clear focus on safe, dependable energy generation and an ethos of service excellence, we pride ourselves on delivering far more than just power.
A FTSE 100 company, British Energy Group plc is the UK’s largest producer of electricity and the lowest carbon emitter of the major UK electricity generators. With a dedicated workforce of about 6,000 skilled professionals, we produce around one-sixth of the nation's electricity.
British Energy owns and operates eight nuclear power stations. In addition, we own and run a coal-fired power station. Our nuclear stations have a combined capacity of almost 10,000 megawatts, whilst our coal-fired plant adds a further 1,960 megawatts of output. We operate two types of nuclear reactor: the advanced gas-cooled reactor (AGR); and a pressurised water reactor (PWR). Sizewell B is the only PWR nuclear power station in our portfolio.
British Energy intends to develop a position at the heart of the country's new nuclear generation. We remain focused on improving the long-term reliability of our power stations. We aim to:
We are focused on producing more electricity, more reliably, by channelling our investment and resources into optimising our plant, and achieving outstanding human performance and safety.
By contracting ahead the sale of our electrical output, we achieve greater price certainty, minimising exposure to short-term market prices.
With safety at the heart of everything we do, we are improving the condition of our stations and, subject to economic and technical evaluation, extending their lives, creating value for our shareholders and sustaining the benefits of low carbon generation.
We intend to develop a position at the heart of new nuclear generation in the UK.
On the 2006 EICFusion Event, Martyn Butlin, Senior Regional Press Officer for British Energy said “We were delighted to support such a successful event”.
British Energy as sponsors of EICFusion have very kindly covered the cost of every delegate to climb aboard the HMS Trincomalee, the oldest floating warship in Britain! There will be time to take this trip during the lunch break and we would encourage as many of you as possible to have a look around this wonderful, fully restored piece of history.
